And he saw: trees a flattened grassland, rolling onto forever another city, smaller than the city he was first in, but just as empty and spires of black reaching out into an endless sky Chet saw all of this. And he was afraid. Chet returned to the city. Resigned. But at least this emptiness was knowable.

I actually enjoy a strawl in the industrial district fromt ime to time, especially on weekends, when its all empty & surreal.
